There are exciting new developments for Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th franchise. The owner of Jason, Horror Inc., has multiple projects in development for the slasher, both in film and other mediums.

Robert Barsamian, a higher up at Horror Inc., recently opened up about the future of Jason Voorhees and Friday the 13th, confirming that multiple projects are in the works, including a new film. He stated, “We are actively working on a new movie – which will be the 13th in the franchise – as well as a new videogame. We’re exploring a variety of opportunities, but consistently staying focused on authenticity.” The Friday the 13th franchise has not received a new feature film in over 15 years.

However, Horror Inc. has also slightly rebranded the franchise, opting for the name ‘Jason Universe’ rather than Friday the 13th. This also came with a redesign to Jason’s look, now sporting a look that differed a bit from what fans were used to. Horror Inc. marketing head Sheri Conn addressed the redesign saying, “We reimagined the eyes on his mask to make Jason look even more menacing and paid homage to the franchise with the 13 holes in the mask. The new design will be used across the board, with some slight differences in interpretation to fit the specific context of each project.”

Besides the announced feature film and video game, there are still other Jason stories in the pipeline. Jason Universe released a short film titled “Sweet Revenge” that was uploaded to their YouTube channel. The short gave a taste of what fans might expect from Jason Voorhees in the modern era. Additionally, A24 is developing a prequel TV series titled Crystal Lake, which will chronicle the beginning of the tragedy of the Voorhees tragedy at Camp Crystal Lake.
