Jason Segel is an actor without fear. He wasn’t afraid to show full frontal nudity in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He followed that performance by singing and dancing with The Muppets. Now Segel is set to star in a movie about one of the most expensive capers of 2011 – the Quebec maple syrup heist.
In 2011, about a dozen thieves stole around 16,000 45 gallon barrels of syrup in Quebec, an area which produces three-quarters of the world’s supply of maple syrup. Sony Pictures is going to be producing the movie, which is said to be a comedy with dramatic overtones. Seth Gordon (Identity Thief) is going to helm the project, with Chris Sheridan (Family Guy) set to pen the script.
Jason Segel is currently finishing up the last season of How I Met Your Mother and is most likely set to start production after. With a news story that already seems like the logline for a comedic blockbuster and a script from a Family Guy vet, Jason Segel is the icing on this comedy cake.
Let’s also not ignore the potential for this to be the spiritual successor to the Ocean’s franchise. A comedy heist movie? Twelve thieves? It certainly sounds like it has all the makings.
