Jason Reitman to Direct Nick Hornby-Written Heist Film

Jason and Ivan Reitman

Jason Reitman (Up in the Air) is set to direct the new bank heist dramedy, I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family with Nick Hornby (An Education) writing the script according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is based on the true story of a Texas family who robbed two banks before they were arrested on their third attempt. The script is will be based on a Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth who also wrote the article that inspired the critically acclaimed 2012 movie, Bernie.

Jason Reitman’s father, Ivan Reitman will produce the film. The two worked together in the same  capacity on Up in the Air, the last movie directed by Ivan Reitman to be nominated for an Oscar. This should generate more buzz for the film than the director’s last two: the critically dismissed Labor Dayand the mostly ignored Men, Women & Children.

Hornby’s script for An Education competed with Up In The Air for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2010. Hornby also wrote the script for the upcoming Reese Witherspoon film, Wild.

A cast has yet to be announced for the film. We’ll have more on the project as it develops.
