Jason Bateman is stealthily creating formidable career behind the camera. For decades, Bateman has worked as a television director (he even helmed an episode of his Emmy-winning comedy series Arrested Development), yet in the past few years that focus has shifted to feature films. He made his directorial debut on the 2013 comedy Bad Words and followed it up with the soon-to-be-released The Family Fang (which co-stars Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman). For his third try at bat, Bateman has attached himself to the comedy Significant Other.
If plans come to fruition, Bateman will produce and star in the upcoming film alongside Jennifer Aniston (who may also serve as an executive producer on the project). Bateman and Aniston previously played off one another in the film The Switch (2010) and are planning re-team for the upcoming feature Office Christmas Party. Significant Other comes from a pitch penned by Andrea Seigel (Laggies); the film is development at STX Entertainment.
Significant Other follows a high-powered businesswoman (Aniston) who is in the running for a major promotion at work. The vetting process proves a challenging one once her company decides they want to get to know her slacker, stay-at-home husband (Bateman). Bateman can currently be heard in Disney’s latest animated triumph Zootopia and is set to join the upcoming Watergate drama Felt. Aniston will soon be seen on screens in the upcoming Mother’s Day from director Garry Marshall.
We will continue to follow developments on Significant Other.
