House of Gucci, Ridley Scott’s latest fashion drama has been bombarded with bad reviews—the New York Post called it “abysmal.”
Twitter critics have trashed Jared Leto’s accent, comparing his performance to the titular character in “Super Mario.”
I’ve seen the #HouseOfGucci & when it’s being a drama it’s fine! But when it’s a comedy it’s GREAT. I’ll leave my full thoughts for next week but LADY GAGA is great & Jared Leto’s Accent reminded of Mario/Luigi. pic.twitter.com/erLtFqOlk8

“Jared Leto’s accent reminded me of Mario/Luigi,” scoffed one critic.
The 49-year-old Oscar-winner portrays Italian fashion mogul Paolo Gucci in the crime biopic, which also stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, and Al Pacino.
Another user criticized the star, “Jared Leto’s ‘It’s-a me, Mario!’ approach to the Italian accent, which does the job — he’s supposed to be a buffoon — but still rubs me the wrong way (as someone who grew up in Northern Italy).”
One offended viewer described Leto’s performance as pure “anti-Italianism.”
Of course, Leto’s accent wasn’t the only problem in House of Gucci. The audience also trashed Lady Gaga’s role as the infamous Patrizia Regianni, who hired a hitman to kill her husband, Mauricio Gucci, in 1995.
Users claim Gaga’s accent sounds Russian rather than Italian.
I think the new "There could be a hundred people" of Lady Gaga is "Is it just me or does Lady Gaga's accent sound like Russian?" Only, it's not Lady Gaga who keeps saying it. But the non-Russian speaking "ACCENT EXPERTS"#HouseOfGucci #LadyGaga

“I think the new “There could be a hundred people” of Lady Gaga is “Is it just me or does Lady Gaga’s accent sound like Russian?” a user writes.
Even the film’s dialect coach Francesca De Martini criticized the 35-year-old singer’s performance, “I feel bad saying this, but her accent is not exactly an Italian accent, it sounds more Russian” — despite months of practice by Gaga, she told the Daily Beast.
