Karl Lagerfeld, who worked as the Creative Director for Chanel from 1983 to 2018, will receive a film detailing the important relationships in the fashion icon’s life. A film about his illustrious life will star Jared Leto as the larger-than-life designer.
Lagerfeld was born in 1933, in Hamburg, Germany. He started out his fashion journey by moving to France at 14 years old and drew sketches for the coat category in the International Wool Association in Paris. At the competition, he would meet another fashion icon, Yves Saint Laurent, who was also a winner at the competition. Before taking up the Creative Director position at Chanel in 1983, Lagerfeld would work with French designer Pierre Balmain and at French fashion house Chloé, where he was a Creative Director and it would be where he established his name in fashion.
The film will be produced by Jared Leto and Emma Ludbrook from Paradox production company, alongside Lagerfeld’s most trusted partners; Caroline Lebar, Sébastien Jondeau, Pier Paolo Righi, the CEO of KARL LAGERFELD.
Righi explained that many Hollywood production companies came to him with the idea of making a film based on the fashion icon’s life. He added that conversations with Ludbrook and Leto have convinced him, Lebar, and Jondeau that they are the right choices to portray Lagerfeld’s story with the necessary, but proper artistic flair.
Lagerfeld’s Twitter was the first to make the announcement.
