In a report originally disclosed by Deadline, British actor, Jared Harris, is now signed on as part of the upcoming Sony Spider-Man spinoff film, Morbius. Harris is known for his roles in television shows such as AMC’S Mad Men but has also garnered plenty of film credits in projects such as Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Morbius is one of the many films planned for the Spider-Man universe (both Marvel and Sony) and is set to follow the Spider-Man villain named Morbius. First appearing in Spider-Man comics in 1971, Dr. Michael Morbius was a biochemist who attempted to cure his own rare blood disease with a serum that involved the genetic material of bats. This gave him pseudo-vampiric abilities and powers as well as a taste for blood. The character was originally created by Gil Kane and Roy Thomas.
For a while now, Jared Leto has been set to take the role of the antihero. However, at the wish of the studio, Harris’s role is currently unconfirmed. The screenplay for the film was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. Swedish film director, Daniel Espinosa, will be directing.
