After the massive popularity Baby Yoda received in The Mandalorian, many are expecting a trend of baby versions of iconic characters to become a thing. It seems like this is happening sooner than expected, as a new Japanese advertisement for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie features a baby version of Sonic. The ad is short but features a decent look of this infant version of the iconic blue hedgehog.
The ad starts out very similar to the other trailers, featuring yet another Green Hill Zone sequence with Sonic running around freely. This time however, we hear music from the game Sonic Mania as it reveals that this Sonic is actually him as a child, similar in design to his Genesis version. It ends on a shot of child Sonic holding a little flower in a very cutesy stance.
Obviously the biggest takeaway from this is how it Sonic seems to be capitalizing on the appeal of Baby Yoda. However, this seems rather coincidental since the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been in production long before Baby Yoda received meme attention. If anything, fans are rather curious about whether baby Sonic was made as part of the film’s new look, as the film infamously delayed production to change the initial design of its titular character after being panned by fans and critics. In that case, fans are rather thankful that Baby Sonic actually looks adorable instead of the nightmare fuel that the original trailer offered.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set for release February 14th 2020. Watch the full ad below:
