Janelle Monaé Says She Wants To Play X-Men’s Storm

Now that Disney has control of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel properties, it’s very real possibility that we may see an onscreen team-up between the Avengers and the X-Men. Dark Phoenix was the last film in the 20th Century Fox X-Men series, featuring the young versions of the key characters such as Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier. Now that the Avengers films have jumped ahead into the future, it leaves those younger versions of the characters in the past. The original cast, including Halle Berry as Storm, could possibly return for an upcoming crossover, but there is also potential for recasting and reconfiguring as nothing is impossible now that Disney has taken over the reigns on the characters and storylines.

Janelle Monaé, singer, actress, and all around powerhouse, thinks that she should be cast as the new Storm. Monaé says, “I’ve definitely thrown it out there. One of my dreams has always been to play Storm.” There’s no definite news if Monaé is being considered for the role, but given her past acting record, she could be amazing at it.

In the comics, Storm has a notable history with Black Panther, both as an ally and as a love interest. We’ve known Black Panther 2 has been in development as for over a year now, as confirmed by director Ryan Coogler. There’s been no mention as to what comic characters will appear in the sequel yet, but if Storm has a role in it, now Coogler has an eager potential candidate for the role. Maybe Monaé could even record a song for the soundtrack!
