Shudder’s upcoming slasher film River has been confirmed to receive a theatrical release. The film stars Jane Levy (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day, Boy Kills World) and is directed by Joshua Giuliano. Giuliano is a first time feature director.
The film’s press release summary reads, “Three estranged siblings reunite in their hometown after the death of their father, and they set out to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot on a remote river. But when their boat breaks down, the trip devolves into a waking nightmare. Stranded miles from help with no cell service, they soon realize they’re being stalked by a faceless killer who has emerged from the woods. To survive the night, the siblings must put their long-standing grudges aside and fight together against a ruthless, almost mythic terror.”
Alongside Levy and Rothe are Dane DiLiegro and Max Mattern. DiLiegro played the Predator in Prey, one of the monsters in Imaginary and the lead werewolf in Werewolves, so it is possible he will play some kind of villain in this film. The film is a Shudder Original Production and will be released theatrically through Independent Film Company. It is currently in post-production, but no release date has been set yet. Shudder, a studio and streamer known mainly for horror films, often puts their films directly onto streaming. However, some higher profile releases are put into theaters such as Good Boy, Oddity, Late Night with the Devil and In A Violent Nature.
