It’s no secret that the upcoming movie Jane Got a Gun has had its fair share of troubles on the road to production. Its original director, Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), refused to show up on the first day of shooting after last minute contract disputes. Jude Law left the picture with Ramsay, this after Michael Fassbender also quit, but before Bradley Cooper’s eventual departure. Now with new director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and leading men Joel Edgerton (who replaced Fassbender) and Ewan McGregor (in place of Law), it looks like the cast for the Natalie Portman-starring western is finally rounding out. The newest addition is Boyd Holbrook, late The Host and Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra. Holbrook is a bit of a star on the rise; he’s also attached to an untitled Terrence Malick project alongside Christian Bale and Rooney Mara, director Scott Cooper’s (Crazy Heart) Out of the Furnace to be released in October of this year (again with Bale), Skeleton Twins starring Kristen Wiig, and the Liam Neeson vehicle Walk Among the Tombstones.
Jane Got a Gun follows the story of the titular Jane (Portman), whose husband Bill (Noah Emmerich) is double-crossed by his gang, now led by Colin McCann (McGregor). When the gang comes after her husband, she asks for help from an ex-lover (Edgerton) to help defend their home. Holbrook will be taking on the role of McGregor’s younger brother.
Filming is set to conclude this month, with post-production running through the end of the year, so expect a release sometime in 2014.
