Jane Fonda, ever the activist, accepted the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film while getting arrested as she protested climate change on Capitol Hill.
In a video streamed onscreen at the BAFTA LA awards celebration, Fonda, zip-tied hands and all, addressed her award and her situation to the crowd, “I’m so honored. I can’t even believe it. I’m so grateful. It’s thrilling and I’m sorry I’m not there, but as you may have heard, I’ve been getting arrested. I decided I need to do more about climate change. And so I moved to DC for four months, trying to heighten the sense of urgency that there needs to be.” You can see the video that played for audiences at the awards in the tweet below.
This is Fonda’s third time in three weeks getting arrested and she is not the only celebrity who has been led away by police in the recent weeks as well. The Good Place‘s Ted Danson and Fonda’s Grace and Frankie co-star Sam Waterston have also been arrested protesting climate change in Washington, D. C.
Fonda is in Washington D. C. for a few more months until she has to begin filming for the seventh and final season of Netflix’s Grace and Frankie. The series, after it was renewed for its fourth season last month, is now the streaming giant’s longest running original series with a total of 94 episodes. The sixth season will air in January 2020.
