The expected sequel to Freaky Friday “is going to happen,” according to actress Jamie Lee Curtis. It is unknown whether the project has been greenlit yet, and there are no official confirmations. However, the actress seemed very convinced as she talked to Variety during the Producers Guild Awards. She stated:
“It’s going to happen … Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”
On social media, Lee Curtis and co-star Lindsay Lohan have been mysterious about the film. During Valentine’s Day, Lee Curtis shared an image of herself and Lohan on Instagram that reads below: “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!” Lohan typed a comment with emojis of a smiley face and crossed fingers.
In November, Lee Curtis also talked to the media about the project in the context of the premiere of Glass Onion: A knives Out Mystery. She said:
” There is no scheduled date, but we are talking. People are talking. The right people are talking…I’m 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36…[A sequel] lends itself so beautifully, We’re both committed to it, and it’s not ours to make. It’s Disney’s to make and I think they’re interested and we’re talking.”
The actress told a secret about the film to 12-year-old Fiona, who is Diego Luna’s daughter and a big fan of the feature. Luna became emotional when seeing his daughter introduced to the actress, and embracing each other.
”I just told her she’s going to the premiere of ‘Freaky Friday 2’ and I told her a secret about it that nobody knows…She’s the only one in the world who knows what I just told her.”
