Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return as the mother-daughter duo of Tess and Anna Coleman in the first trailer for an even Freakier Friday. This is a sequel to Freaky Friday, the 2003 comedy starring Curtis and Lohan.
The first Freaky Friday, based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel follows the mother-daughter duo who are polar opposites and cannot understand each other. After receiving strange fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, Tess and Anna wake up in the other’s body. With no knowledge of how to switch back, they pretend to portray one another in hopes of finding a solution.
This sequel will feature a “multigenerational twist” according to a press release from The Walt Disney Company. Anna now has daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. Tess and Anna are navigating the blended family experience and are sure to “discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.” This time, the trailer shows us a four-person body swap involving Tess, Anna, and her daughter and stepdaughter.
Along with Curtis and Lohan, Freakier Friday‘s returning stars include Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. New cast additions include Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters.
Disney announced the sequel in March 2024, with Nisha Ganatra directing. She has directed episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales and Max’s And Just Like That… and has directed feature films including The High Note and Late Night.
Andrew Gunn was a producer on the first movie and is returning to produce the sequel alongside former Disney exec Kristin Burr, with a script from Jordan Weiss, creator of Dollface.
