Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx has signed on to star in and produce Deadlocked, an upcoming action thriller acquired by Amazon MGM Studios for a global streaming release on Prime Video. The feature will be directed by Indian filmmaker Nikhil Bhat, who earned international acclaim for his 2024 Hindi-language action feature Kill. Written by Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack from their original story concept, Deadlocked follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty. When the high-profile court trial devolves into a crisis after the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse to force her father’s release, the veteran is compelled to rely on his military training to navigate the hostage situation.
Foxx will produce the project under his Foxxhole Productions banner alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger for Range, and Dave Caplan for C2. Range and C2 previously partnered on horror features Longlegs and The Monkey. Executive producers attached to the film include AJ Bourscheid, Liz Destro, Paul Currie, and Corinne Foxx. The project extends Foxx’s ongoing focus on action and genre cinema following Netflix’s Back in Action, which accumulated 46.8 million views during its premiere weekend.
Foxx’s upcoming film slate also includes the true-story Olympic boxing drama Fight for ’84 at Netflix, alongside his ongoing television role hosting Fox’s game show Beat Shazam. Director Bhat previously made his international festival debut with Kill at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the project secured a mid-seven-figure distribution agreement with Lionsgate before expanding to a wide theatrical run. Bhat also directed the survival thriller Apurva for Disney+ Hotstar.
Amazon MGM Studios has not yet set a production start date or premiere schedule for Deadlocked on Prime Video.
