With the massive amount of success Sonic the Hedgehog received, it was only a matter of time that Paramount would start work on any potential sequel. Fortunately, one of the main actors have confirmed that Sonic adventures will continue in the world of cinema. Actor James Marsden stated in a recent interview with Variety that he has signed on for more sequels featuring the blue blur.
During the interview, Marsden discussed that he will be returning for the next film, which will likely tie into a post credit sequence hinting at one of the Sonic franchise’s most iconic characters. Marsden seems very ecstastic about returning, expression how much fun he had on set during Sonic‘s production. Specifically, he discussed how great it was to see Jim Carrey return to comedic roles, as Marsden described Carrey as a big influence on his career. “To chew the scenery with his amazing ways and just have fun doing it again was a real joy for me because he’s always been an inspiration,” Marsden exclaimed when discussing Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik.
Given how Sonic the Hedgehog has become one of the highest grossing video game movies of all time, it makes sense that Marsden would return for a sequel. Sonic has grossed over $100 million dollar at the U.S. box office so far, with a total of nearly $300 million worldwide. Hopefully the sequel will do just as well and hopefully even better for Marsden and the rest of the cast (especially the animators who worked overtime on Sonic’s redesign) who helped make this film such a hit with Sonic fans.
