A new trailer has been released for Ella McCay, coming to audiences from 20th Century Studios and Gracie Films. James L. Brooks is writing, directing, and producing the film.
With Emma Mackey in the leading role, Ella McCay follows an incoming state governor trying to figure out how to balance her personal life with the duties entailed by her new post. Mackey is joined by an ensemble of A-list costars, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Albert Brooks, Rebecca Hall, Kumail Nanjiani, and many others.
Director Brooks has a number of other films to his name, such as As Good As It Gets, Terms Of Endearment, and Broadcast News. However, his biggest claim to fame comes from television. He was one of the creative minds behind The Mary Tyler Moore Show, as well as helping to bring The Simpsons to TV screens.
Brooks even has some Academy Award wins from his career as well. He won several for Terms Of Endearment, winning for both writing and directing, while the film even went on to win Best Picture that year. As Good As It Gets and Broadcast News were also nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, but both lost in their respective years.
Audiences get a good sense of what exactly it is that Mackey’s titular role has to deal with from the trailer. Right from the start, a frayed relationship with her father, played by Harrelson, is established, with the two not seeing eye to eye on his choices of moving on from her mother. Her family issues don’t end there, either, as she hopes to guide her little brother to keep up a strong relationship that he started.
Ella McCay hits theaters December 12th. Check out the trailer below.
