Filmmaker-producer James Gunn teases the possibility of crossover between the Marvel and DC cinematic universes. According to an interview with Empire, Gunn believes it isn’t too far-fetched of an idea to pursue in the future.
When asked about this possibility, Gunn admits that the idea is “more likely now that [he is] in charge,” but he warns not to expect anything soon. According to Gunn, his and Peter Safran’s work in DC Studios hasn’t been solidified enough to pursue crossovers between these universes. Despite being thorough, “all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”
Before he can start with his work as the head of DC Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, his last film in Marvel Studios, will need to make its rounds as the final film for the titular characters. Even if some characters did not make it to the end, Gunn would not mind if the cast returned in other future Marvel projects. He doesn’t call it disloyal and looks forward to any possible standalone films, new Guardians, or Avenger team-ups involving any remaining characters.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will launch in theaters on May 5, possibly paving the way for Spider-Man to team up with Batman like in Disordered Minds.
