James Gunn Signals That DCU Batman Film Is Still Far Off

Earlier in the week, Dread Central reported that the script for the DCU’s Brave and the Bold film was complete, hinting at a 2028 release.  Chapter 1 of the DCU, Gods and Monsters, is set to bring its own version of the Caped Crusader to the big screen, as announced by James Gunn almost 3 years ago.

James Gunn has since debunked this rumor, stating that the script for the film is unfinished.  Nothing has been said about who is actually writing this script, but Andy Muschietti is still attached to direct.  He most recently directed The Flash in 2023, the film that was met with very mixed reviews and was meant to bridge the gap into Gunn’s new DCU.  Gunn has been very coy in his remarks about this upcoming version of Batman, only really hinting at how many actors are interested in the role and that Damian Wayne is expected to be in the film.  Actors who have thrown their hat in the ring for the role include Alan Ritchson, Jensen Ackles, and Jonathan Bailey, as told by ScreenRant.

With the script still incomplete, casting and production appears to still be a ways away.  Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds The Batman: Part 2 is slated to release in October of 2027, so it is safe to assume the studio will want to give the character some breathing room before releasing their own film.
