Ever since filmmaker James Gunn took the reins over DC’s film branch, fans have been wanting to know one thing. Will Matt Reeves’ version of Batman be considered a part of this new DCU? And after a long wait, we get a somewhat blunt answer.
On January 28th, James Gunn went to Threads and, like always, directly answered some questions about upcoming project details. He usually just discredits rumors about DC’s upcoming films and shows, with very direct claims. Then one commentor asked if Robert Pattinson’s Batman could be a part of this new universe.
Is there a chance Robert Pattinson could play the DCU Batman, even as a sort of variant, disconnected from the Matt Reeves’ movies?
And for those who don’t know, a variant in this context is an alternative universe version of the same character. This terminology is being made popular by the Loki TV show. This question, as mentioned before, has been asked many times. The interesting part about it is the answer James Gunn gave to it, a very blunt “No”.
To most, this isn’t any new information. A lot of people online made this conclusion after the announcement of Andy Muschietti’s own Batman movie back in 2023. This film, being made by a whole different crew than Matt Reeves’ version, made some think that there would be two different Batmen on the silver screen at the same time.
And now, from the man himself, it’s certain that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will remain on his own.
