It has been a week full of news coming from DC Studios. James Gunn, the director behind Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, commented on Zachary Levi’s recent backlash around Pfizer.
The Shazam! actor quote-tweeted the following: “Do you agree or not, that Pfizer is a real danger to the world.” And he added, “Hardcore agree.”
Soon after, his tweet became the source of fury to many social media users that connected the anti-Pfizer statement to an anti-vaccine one, the actor did not mention specifically the Covid-19 vaccine produced by the laboratory though. Levi tweeted in response to a link to a release from the Department of Justice where a settlement for $2.3 billion for fraudulent marketing was disclosed.
Gunn addressed this situation during DC’s presentation of new projects. When asked about the controversy, the Chairman responded:
“Actors, filmmakers I work with are going to say things that I agree with and things that I don’t agree with. That’s going to happen. I don’t have a list of things that somebody should say because of what I think. I can’t be changing my plans all the time because an actor says something that I don’t agree with…By the same token, if someone is doing something morally reprehensible, that’s a different story. We have to take that stuff into account. It’s a balance, it’s a modern world, it’s a different place.”
Zachary Levi stars as Shazam! In the second installment of the franchise entitled Fury of the Gods. The film will be released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
