With James Gunn‘s Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy wrapping up in May, the writer/director is now turning his sights fully to the realm of DC. His first outing for the company, The Suicide Squad, opened to warm critical reception, and paved the way for Gunn to settle into DC moving forward, serving as co-head with Peter Safran, helping to guide the company to a fully realized cinematic universe.
The first release slated for the new stretch of films will be Superman: Legacy, which Gunn himself will helm. Recently, it was confirmed by Gunn that 3 known heroes, outside of Superman, will appear in the film: Guy Gardner Green Lantern, played by Nathan Fillion, Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced, and Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi.
The announcement has generated a fair amount of speculation around their implementation, Deadline reports. Some are theorizing that, by using the characters, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is trying to lure in any potential buyers. Upon seeing this, Gunn responded to it on Threads, by simply saying, “of course not.”
In a similar state, DC announced that a Justice League animated film, based on Crisis On Infinite Earths, is slated for a 2024 release. This lead some to theorize that it could be a base for a live action film from Gunn. Upon responding to this, Gunn had another similar response: “no.”
Superman: Legacy is set to release July 11th, 2025.
