In a recent Q&A with a fan on Threads, James Gunn confirmed that Rachel Brosnahan will officially reprise her role as Lois Lane in the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. When asked what role Lane will play in the story, Gunn replied with a short but succinct answer. “She’s important,” replied Gunn.
This casting update provides one more piece of information about the Superman sequel. Previously, Gunn confirmed the film to be in the works, announcing the film on Instagram with a post featuring artwork by DC Comics artist Jim Lee of David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in the character’s iconic green and purple suit and a caption that states, “Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027.”
Gunn had previously discussed the film with Howard Stern on SiriusXM, describing the film as a team-up movie of sorts between David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, by saying:
“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. … It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.”
Man of Tomorrow will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027, almost two years to the day after the first movie.
