James Gunn isn’t just leading the new cinematic universe (DCU) at DC Studios; he’s also a well-established and beloved figure in the superhero realm. Recently, he took to Threads to address a key question: will he continue his creative role after Superman?
Before stepping into the co-CEO position alongside Peter Safran, Gunn had proven a strong track record in comic book adaptations, prompting curiosity about how his new role might impact his hands-on involvement.
Gunn reassured fans that he plans to keep writing and directing: “Yes, after I’m further down the road with [Superman, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos], there will be [other projects],” Collider reports. This is positive news for DC fans, especially given Gunn’s success with films like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and the DC venture The Suicide Squad.
Besides the long-awaited DCU launching film Superman landing in theaters July 2025 and starring David Corenswet in the title role, Gunn is also confirmed to be producing upcoming projects like the Matt Reeves-directed The Batman: Part II, set for an October 2026 release, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring up-and-coming actress Milly Alcock. Gunn is also attached to other DCU projects such as Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, and Paradise Lost, in a producer role though details on casting for films like Batman: The Brave and the Bold remain under wraps for now.
Creature Commandos, the inaugural TV series in the new DCU, is scheduled to premiere on December 5, 2024 on Max.
