Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée is casting for his film Demolition. Prisoners star Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly in talks to assume the lead role.
Demolition centers on the story of an investment banker – possibly to be played by Gyllenhaal – whose life begins to fall apart after the tragic death of his wife. Things take a turn for the worst as he struggles to understand his emotional disconnect until he is ultimately rescued by a woman he meets in a chance encounter.
Gyllenhaal received rave reviews for his performance in 2013’s Prisoners and he has steadily and successfully added a slew of meaty, challenging roles to his repertoire. Let’s not forget his Oscar-nominated turn as Jack Twist in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain (2005), his determined Robert Graysmith in David Fincher’s The Zodiac (2007) and his Colter Stevens in the small, but intelligent film Source Code (2011) directed by Duncan Jones. Gyllenhaal has emerged as a versatile courageous actor who isn’t afraid to push himself.
