Announced this week during the Cannes Film Festival, Jack Black (The D Train) is all set to star in Jared Hess’s (Napoleon Dynamite) new comedy, Micronations. The movie will follow an oddball, played by Black, who lives in a world of ‘micronations’ – small countries that people formed in their backyards.
This is a reunion of sorts for Black and Hess, who last teamed up for 2006’s Nacho Libre. Micronations was written by Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes, who were writers on TV’s New Girl. The pair also wrote last year’s comedic thriller Murder of a Cat.
Hess’s latest directorial effort, Masterminds, will be released this summer. In the meantime, Black’s latest, The D Train, opened earlier this month. He’s also set to star as writer, R.L. Stein in Goosebumps and will return to lend his voice to beloved martial arts panda, Po, in Kung Fu Panda 3.
Micronations is currently in pre-production. No release timeline has been set.
