Sony Pictures has just released the trailer for their upcoming comedy-horror film Anaconda starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd. The film serves as a metafictional sequel/remake to the 1997 film of the same name, which itself exists within the world of the new film. The trailer begins with Doug (Black) and Griff (Rudd) excitedly sharing their hopes to “reboot” the film, one they have loved so dearly from a young age. They assemble an indie film crew, complete with their own live snake, and aboard a river boat in the Amazon rainforest to shoot the project. Things quickly go south for the team when a real, massive anaconda infiltrates their production, leaving bloodshed in its wake. The trailer humorously is set to sound bites of Sir Mix-a-lot’s popular track “Baby Got Back” as members of the crew are hunted by the serpent one by one.
Doug’s director character instructs the horrified crew to “keep rolling” amidst the terror, before he is shown as “dead” later in the trailer. He is used as bait by Griff and Kenny (co-star Steve Zahn) to lure in the titular beast before he regains consciousness, ensuing a thrilling and comical chase and attack sequence. Anaconda is directed by Tom Gormican who co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten, the film also stars Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior and Selton Mello. The film hits theaters December 25, 2025.
