J-LO Documentary ‘Halftime’ To Open Tribeca Film Festival

Jennifer Lopez at Super Bowl Halftime Show 54.

Jennifer Lopez’s life and career are put on display in a new documentary premiering on Wednesday, June 8. Opening the Tribeca Film Festival, Halftime will dive into the pressures of performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show and Lopez’s presidential inauguration performance.

Amanda Micheli, director of Haveababy (2016) One Nation Under Dog (2012), and Thin (2006), has worked the narrative around Lopez’s music and acting career. “It’s an honor to be selected for the opening night of Tribeca,” Micheli said. “And so fitting to be celebrating this critical milestone in Jennifer’s life and career just miles from where she grew up!”

The film festival is set to be held at the United Palace in Washington Heights among other places in upper Manhattan. “We’re thrilled to open with Halftime.” said Tribeca Festival Co-Founder and Tribeca Enterprises CEO Jane Rosenthal. Lopez grew up only a few blocks from the United Palace in the Bronx, so it will be a callback to her roots with her Latina culture and heritage.

The film will showcase Lopez’s activism through her halftime performance in 2020.

Robert De Niro, who is a co-founder with Rosenthal said, “Powerful storytelling — whether in music, film, or games — encourages us to fight for universal values that bind humanity together.”

The film will come out on Netflix on June 14.
