Italian Andrea Lervlino has hired NASA Veteran Bert Ulrich as executive vice president of production development and communications at his Space 11 Corps. banner. With Ulrich’s help, Lervlino aims to produce various entertainment content, from film and TV to live concerts and sports events, all shot in outer space. “Bert is a visionary in space storytelling. His experience is invaluable in taking Space 11 to the next level and inspiring audiences around the world”, says Lerlino in a statement.
Bert Ulrich has the credentials for such an ambitious project. At NASA, Ulrich worked as their liaison for film and documentaries, advising on NASA’s part for films such as The Martian, First Man, Hidden Figures, and Ad Astra. Ulrich also advised on the upcoming Project Hail Mary, releasing in March of next year. “I’m thrilled to join Space 11 and help shape a new era of entertainment on Earth and in space. With Andrea and the team, we’re ready to explore storytelling in a way the world has never seen”, Ulrich said in a statement.
Space 11 functions as a subsidiary of Lervolino’s film and TV company, Lervolino Entertainment. It follows the example of IMAX, which has developed specialized cameras and equipment for various documentary projects shot in outer space environments over the past decade.
