A new film adaptation of the Sega video game series House of the Dead is currently in the works. Isabella Merced, known for her roles in The Last of Us TV series, Superman (2025), and Alien: Romulus (2024), has been officially cast to star in this adaptation. This news was first shared by Deadline, both online and on Instagram. Also reported by Deadline, Paul W.S Anderson, best known for helming the Resident Evil series of movies starring Milla Jovovich, as well as the cult classic science fiction horror movie Event Horizon (1997), is officially set to write and direct this new House of the Dead movie.
This wouldn’t be the first film adaptation of the popular Sega arcade game series. The franchise has had two previous film adaptations: House of the Dead (2003) and its sequel, House of the Dead 2 (2005). Both films were critical and financial failures at their respective releases, with the first receiving a 3% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and the second being released straight to DVD.
This new House of the Dead movie is said to be Sega’s next attempt at a modern film adaptation of their video game I.P., following the Sonic the Hedgehog series of movies, which have grossed a total of $1.037 billion worldwide across the three films released so far. The House of the Dead movie is set to be produced by Paul W.S Anderson, alongside Jeremy Bolt, who both previously produced the Resident Evil movies. Sega film producer Toru Nakahara, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will also be producing. In addition to starring in the film, Isabella Merced is also set to executive-produce the film.
No other details about the film, such as a release date or additional casting, are known at this time.
