Talented director Ryan Coogler (Creed) recently shared some interesting information about his upcoming film Black Panther starring actor Chadwick Boseman.
In an interview reported by Complex, Coogler mentioned that when he was initially being considered to direct the project, Marvel wanted the film “to be their version of James Bond.” Apparently this is one of the main reasons why he became enamored at the prospect of bringing Black Panther to the big screen. He went on to say that he was already a fan of the Bond series and that a super hero spin on that structure should make for an interesting and exciting movie.
The idea of T’Challa (Black Panther’s true identity) playing as a Bond type was later shared with Letitia Wright (Ready Player One, Black Mirror), the actress who portrays Shuri. Her character in the film and comic books supplies T’Challa with strategic and technological support, so when the Bond concept was brought to her attention, of course they related her character to Q. Wright took a moment to consider this comparison and ultimately agreed that Shuri fills that roll for her half-brother T’Challa.
There’s less than a month to wait! Black Panther is set for release on February 16th of this year.
