Wild Bunch International, the distributor of Titane and Happening, has changed its name to Goodfellas. In a brief press release, the company said, “There are no other changes to the structure created in 2019, “which was established by the two companies who previously co-founded Wild Bunch. It is now owned by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst and run by former NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Ron Meyer and former beIN Media Group CEO Sophie Jordan.
Wild Bunch International was formed shortly after Wild Bunch completed its restructuring plan. As part of the three-year deal, Wild Bunch has taken a minority stake in the new banner, allowing them to use the Wild Bunch trademark. The three-year agreement ended in November, and the companies no longer have a business relationship. However, Goodfellas said it would continue to work with Wild Bunch on select projects as part of the new deal.
In an article published by Variety, they write the company’s statement. “While Goodfellas is now owned and operated separately from the Wild Bunch Group, the companies will continue to work together through a new co-financing agreement that includes the development and production of, and participation in, select new projects,”
The company threw a party to mark the name change in January but decided at the last minute not to announce it. They said they would have to ask Martin Scorsese for permission to use the title of the 1990 cult film. The Wild Bunch was also an homage to Sam Peckinpah’s film of the same name.
The outfit also runs a genre film label called Wild West. The brand was recently launched with Thierry Lounas and his Bannerman Capricci.
