It looks like Riley is gaining some new emotions, as it has been tentatively confirmed that Inside Out 3 is in the works.
During an interview with ComicBook.com on Saturday, Paul Walter Hauser, who was the voice of Embarrassment for the sequel, seemingly verified the rumors about a third feature. Hauser stated, “I heard we might be doing another one,” with the explanation that Inside Out is different from the other animated features as it “doesn’t really treat children as less intellectual beings… they’ll groove with it as they get older, they’ll get some of the other jokes, and it’ll find new resonance.”
The Inside Out franchise follows a girl, Riley Anderson, through different times of her life while depicting how emotions, like Joy and Sadness, guide her “coming-of-age experiences.” The first animated film was released in 2015, becoming both a box-office and critical hit, with it taking home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The sequel came nine years later, bringing home nearly $1.7 billion in the box office.
While Hauser might have confirmed that there will be a third addition to the franchise, Pixar has made no comment as of yet. But, given how successful the second feature was, a third feature seems likelier than not. This does leave fans with hope, but they will have to imagine what the third installment will entail, as it does not seem likely anything but a confirmation will be revealed soon.
Nevertheless, Inside Out 3 is definitely going to bring new emotions to Riley’s brain, and it will be exciting to see which ones are portrayed.
