As the summer movie season for 2024 begins to wind down, two of the films continue to put up sizable numbers at the box office. Between the two of them, one was able to fit its way into the top 10 grosses of all time.
Inside Out 2 was released in June of this year, and, just like the first, opened to massive critical and box office success. It opened to a whopping $145 million domestically, beating the $90 million opening that the first film had nearly a decade ago.
The overall total for Inside Out 2 currently sits at $1.6 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of the year. The other billion-dollar film of the season, and this year, is Deadpool And Wolverine.
Deadpool And Wolverine, similarly, has broken its records upon its release. Along the way to the $1.2 billion total it now boasts, it also became the highest-grossing R-rated film, taking over for Joker, which held the title since 2019.
Screenrant, who found out from The Numbers, points out that Inside Out 2’s total gross of $1.666 billion has overtaken the 2019 version of Lion King’s gross of $1.662 billion. Before now, Lion King held the number 9 spot for highest-grossing films worldwide, but Inside Out 2 has bumped it down to number 10, thanks to the findings of Box Office Mojo.
Screenrant noted, as well, that Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time thanks to its colossal gross. The record previously belonged to Frozen II.
