This year’s Infinity Festival, an annual event in Los Angeles celebrating both technology and storytelling, will feature a screening of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition (1979) and an auction of rare memorabilia from the franchise. The event, founded by Mark Lieber, runs from November 6 to 9 and will blend tech, entertainment, and design with a unique Star Trek focus to cap off the festivities.
A 4K restoration of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition, produced by David C. Fein (King Cohen) and directed by Robert Wise (The Sound Of Music), will be the centerpiece of the festival held at the Dolby Vine Screening Room. The screening will showcase Wise’s 1979 film, staring William Shatner (Masters of the Universe: Revolution) and Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek), with Fein providing introductory remarks.
Adding to the excitement, the event will feature a high-profile auction handled by Julien’s Auctions of Gardena, California, including rare props from the original Star Trek television series. Notable items up for bid include the USS Enterprise Helm and Navigation Console, as well as Captain Kirk’s (William Shatner) phaser and communicator. The festival will also include 200 pieces of Star Trek memorabilia on display to attendees on November 7 and 8. Fans will be able to see costumes, props, and other collectibles spanning the series’ long history, adding to the immersive experience at the festival.
The Infinity Festival will also host discussions featuring key industry players. Speakers from leading entertainment and tech companies like Sega (Sonic The Hedgehog), Sony Imageworks (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), and Lucasfilm’s award-winning ILM Immersive will delve into the future of digital media. Additionally, Justin Marks (Top Gun: Maverick) and Rachel Kondo, creators of the Emmy-winning series Shōgun (2024), are among the notable guests appearing at the festival.
With its mix of film screenings, memorabilia, and cutting-edge technology talks, Infinity Festival promises a multi-faceted experience for both Star Trek enthusiasts and fans of digital innovation.
