Bobby Meyers had worked in the film industry for over five decades, beginning in 1956. Early in his career, Meyers worked as the European Sales Manager for Columbia Pictures International in Paris and Brussels (Variety).
Meyers went on to work at multiple film companies including National General Pictures, Lorimar, Filmways, Orion Pictures and Village Roadshow. He was behind films like Obsession, Twilight’s Last Gleaming, Being There and Blow Out (THR).
In 1981 Meyers would help found and become chairman of the American Film Marketing Association, which helped independent films and filmmakers, and is continuing to contribute to the independent film world today. In 1995 he told Variety that the company “wanted to combine the glamour of Hollywood with the efficiency of Milan.” So the company made independent film screenings available in Los Angeles and had audiences full of potential buyers.
Meyers had been a part of the film industry for years, even after stepping down as chairman, and continued to celebrate independent films.
He was 90 years old when the news broke that he had died on Sunday in his home in New Jersey. His family includes his wife Roberta and his children Adam, David and Jen.
