Tom Holland’s life as Spider-Man in the MCU is about to get more complicated. If you thought it was hard for him to keep up with schoolwork, hang out with the Avengers, fight neighborhood crime, and battle raging hormones, imagine doing all of that with the addition of a femme-fatale character who is as likely to kick Spidey’s ass as she is to save it.
Filming for the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is due to begin this spring, and casting director Sarah Finn is working hard to find the right actress from Europe around her 20’s to play the to-be-determined character, according to That Hashtag Show. Given the Webhead’s comic book history with numerous femme-fatales, there are a few casting possibilities that make more spidey-sense than others.
The first possibility is Gwen Stacy, although Gwen might deserve a break after being portrayed by Emma Stone in the two Amazing Spider-Man films. Another option would be Jessica Drew, who grew up in the fictional European country of Transia and has an interesting history of working for Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. and going by the Spider-Woman monicker.
Another tantalizing casting choice brings up the proposition of a crossover with Sony’s upcoming Silver and Black film. The two main characters in that movie are Black Cat (real name: Felicia Hardy) and Silver Sable (real name: Silver Sablinova). While Cat has more history with Spider-Man in the comics, Sable may jive better with the European description. Interestingly, Silver and Black is filming around the same time at the new Spider-Man sequel, so this could be an efficient way for the undetermined femme-fatale to knock out both movies (and Spidey) in the next few months.
