DaCosta has previously helmed Little Woods and Candyman, which will be released in August of 2021. This will be DaCosta’s biggest movie to date, though she has worked with significant actors including the MCU’s own Tessa Thompson and Black Manta and Dr. Manhattan actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. This is a huge step in her career and judging from her past films, twitter, and the fact that we share a birthday, I personally couldn’t be more excited.
Guys I know this is shocking and brand new information but I am directing Captain Marvel 2 and I am so damn excited about it!

Iman Vellani was cast as Kamala Khan over video chat at the start of the pandemic, and after her Disney+ series she will make the jump to the big screen. These are her first official acting roles. She is brand new to the industry just as Daisy Ridley was at the start of the Sequel Trilogy. Disney as a whole has been focused on finding unknown talent, while also allowing their established artists grow. This is a perfect example of that and makes Captain Marvel’s roles as her idol feel that much more real.
Lastly, Teyonah Parris will return as an adult Monica Rambeau, after her introduction in WandaVision in January. Parris will be the elder Monica, who first appear as a child, played by Akira Akbar, the first Captain Marvel. She can be seen in her roughly decade long career in everything from Mad Men to If Beale Street Could Talk. Parris could be playing a version of Captain Marvel down the road, similar to her comic book counterpart. The count for ‘Marvel’ titled superheroes could get up to three in this movie. With Larson’s Danvers, Vellani, and Parris.
These castings and directing choices are exciting for the sequel to the popular Brie Larson led film. The mix of established and fresh talent is quite exciting. While the Marvel Universe felt over after the final snap in Endgame, it is nice to see some risks being taken with the typical Marvel formula.
Captain Marvel 2 is now set for a November 11, 2022 release date.
