Image Acquires ‘Burying The Ex’

Image Entertainment has acquired the horror comedy Burying The Ex. The Joe Dante (Gremlins, Small Soldiers)-directed movie stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga: New Moon), who play Max and Evelyn, respectively, a young couple who have recently moved in together. Things take a tragic turn however, when Evelyn dies. Max’s life becomes even stranger when his deceased love comes back as a zombie.

While Greene has experience in monster films with the Twilight franchise, Yelchin’s only experience with monsters was as a human in last year’s vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive and 2011’s remake of Fright Night. The project also is notable for having the services of director Joe Dante, who essentially built his career on this type of movie.

The deal makes sense for Image, which along with distributing movies like the upcoming Dan Brown adaptation Inferno, is also known for horror movies like Wolf Creek 2. They are likely hoping for a similar type of success as Lionsgate’s 2013 zombie rom-com Warm Bodies.

Burying the Ex will be released in limited theaters and on-demand services this summer. Check out a clip from the movie below:
