IFC Films has nabbed U.S. distribution rights to London Town, Derrick Borte’s latest film which features Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Match Point) as The Clash frontman Joe Strummer. The deal was confirmed shortly before the film made it world premiere at the current Los Angeles Film Festival, where the film is in the world fiction competition. Variety broke the story.
London Town, written by Matt Brown (writer/director of the recently released IFC Films entry The Man Who Knew Infinity), is set in 1970s London and centers around a teenage boy (played by Daniel Huttlestone of Into the Woods and Les Misérables fame) whose life is transformed after being introduced to the influential punk band. Dougray Scott (Taken 3), Natasha McElhone (Romeo & Juliet) and Kerry Howard (I Give It a Year) also star.
No release plans have yet been made public but the sale marks the first significant buy out of the Los Angeles Film Festival.
