Idris Elba (No Good Deed) has confirmed to The Telegraph that he and Tom Hiddleston (Only Lovers Left Alive) will both be making an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. The British actor plays Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, with fellow Brit Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki, the wicked brother to Thor.
Although many hoped that popular baddie Loki may make an appearance in the Avengers sequel, he was noticeably absent from the first trailer for the film, causing some to speculate as to whether Marvel was being secretive about his role, or whether Whedon and company were in fact trying to focus solely on James Spader’s Ultron as the main antagonist.
Heimdall, on the other hand, is a more unexpected inclusion in the film. Although Elba appeared in both Thor and Thor: The Dark World, he was not involved in 2012’s The Avengers.
While Elba affirmed that both men would be appearing in a scene together – along with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor – the extent of their involvement in the film is unknown, a mystery Marvel would surely like to maintain.
Along with Age of Ultron, Elba will also be appearing in Cary Fukunaga’s (HBO’s True Detective) Beasts of No Nation next year and starring in Pierre Morel’s (Taken) The Gunman. Hiddleston’s 2015 will be equally hectic, as the actor will star in Ben Wheatley’s (A Field in England) sci-fi High-Rise, Guillermo Del Toro’s (Pacific Rim) Crimson Peak, and play country music star Hank Williams in Marc Abraham’s (Flash of Genius) I Saw The Light.
