So far, Ice Road 2 is the biggest deal to be made at Cannes this year. The international rights have been pre-bought by Amazon Prime Video. However, this excludes Germany. Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky has been estimated to be sold for about $17 million.
Although this deal is not finished yet, market sources show that it is beginning to close. Rights were also sold by another buyer separately to Germany. The original movie sold to Netflix for about $18 million in 2021 and several other distributors internationally.
The first The Ice Road film followed Liam Neeson in the terrains of Northern Canada. Ice Road 2 takes place in Nepal. Neeson as his character, Mike McCann, is following through on his brother’s wishes to have his ashes scattered on Mt. Everest. On this journey, McCann and his mountain guide run into Nepalese mercenaries on their way up the mountain with a tour bus of travelers. It is up to McCann to fight the mercenaries to save himself, the travelers, and the homeland of the local villagers.
ShivHans Pictures and Code Entertainment will finance the movie. The sequel will be produced by Eugene Musso, Al Corley, and Bart Rosenblatt from Code Entertainment, including David Tish and Lee Nelson from Envision Media Arts and Shivani Rawat from ShivHans Pictures. Executive producers are David Buelow, Myles Nestel, Connor Flanagan, Lisa Wilson, Jonathan Dana, and Julie Goldstein. Writer and director Jonathan Hensleigh will be joining for the sequel as well.
Wilson says, “I am thrilled to bring this action-packed sequel to the market, knowing it is exactly what everyone is looking for, and, of course, delighted to continue our partnership with Code and relationship with Liam Neeson.”
