Iannucci’s ‘David Copperfield’ Hires Hugh Laurie and Tilda Swinton

According to an exclusive from Variety, both Hugh Laurie and Tilda Swinton have just been hired to act in Armando Iannucci’s adaptation of the Charles Dickens staple David Copperfield.

Swinton is best known for her roles in Doctor Strange, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Laurie can best be remembered as the dry and witty Dr. House on the television series House. He can also be seen in The Man in the Iron Mask and Tomorrowland.

It looks like they’ll be in great company too! Other recognizable names joining Swinton and Laurie include Ben Wishaw, Morfydd Clark, Aneurin Barnard, and Dev Patel. Notably, Patel will play the lead. He has wowed audiences for years with films like Lion, Chappie, and Slumdog Millionaire, and will no doubt bring talent to an excellent group of actors.

Still, don’t expect the movie to be too much by the book, so to speak. The adaptation plans to spice things up by making the film more like the current era. That’s a big gap in the timeframe, as the book came out a whopping 168 years ago. It will be interesting to see how this project tackles a refreshing new change.
