Ian Gomez is joining the cast of Clint Eastwood’s latest film The Ballad of Richard Jewell, according to Hollywood Reporter. This Warner Bros. film is based off a Vanity Fair story written by Marie Brenner, which details an olympic security guard who found himself at the center of a media frenzy. Jewell was working at the 1996 Olympic Summer games when he discovered a backpack containing a pipe bomb. He was hailed as a hero for rescuing everyone, but soon afterward was accused of being the prime suspect. This led to Jewel’s home being searched twice and him being called an overweight failed cop by the media.
Gomez is joining a sizable and well renowned cast, including names like Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Olivia Wilde, Jon Ham and Paul Walter Hauser. Paul Walter Hauser has been cast in the lead role of Jewell, although it’s not yet said whom Gomez will be playing. The film was originally set up by Fox with Leonardo DiCaprio playing Jewell’s attorney and Jonah Hill as Jewell himself. But now Hill and DiCaprio will be producing a project with Tim Moore, Jessica Meier, Kevin Misher and Jennifer Davisson, hence why the film has been moved to Warner Bros.
