I Know What You Did Last Summer is getting a reboot. The original film from 1997 follows a group of friends who realize they are being targeted after a tragic accident. They discover that they are being targeted by a killer who is using a hook as his deadly weapon.
The reboot is scheduled for an early release in July 2025, with an announcement claiming that it would be “exclusively in theaters this summer.” Recently, the official X account for the film (IKWYDLS_Movie) tweeted out the first image teasing the reboot. The most interesting part of the image is the iconic hook from the films. This confirms that the killer will, at the very least, be using the same weapon used in the original movies.
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has stated that the film will not ignore the previous sequels, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. The reboot is set by the stars Madelyne Cline, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Freddie Prinze Jr.
With the new film honoring both the style of the franchise’s killer and the plot points of the sequels, it is easy to see that Robinson cares about the franchise. It will be exciting for fans to see where she takes this next installment.
