Korean actress Hoyeon, celebrated for her role in Squid Game, teams up with The Gentlemen series star Theo James in the upcoming thriller The Hole, directed by Kim Jee-woon, whose film Cobweb released last year.
The Hole tells the story of Owen, played by James, a professor dealing with a tragic past, who finds himself in recovery under the care of his Korean mother-in-law following a serious accident that claimed his wife. As Owen tries to heal, unsettling secrets about his relationship with his wife start to emerge, raising questions that disrupt his path forward.
The story is based on the 2017 novel by Hye-young Pyun and scripted by Playwright Christopher Chen. Known for previous collaborations on thrillers like I Saw the Devil (2010), director Kim Jee-woon brings his distinctive style to the project, which is an intense character-driven narrative about guilt, mystery, and the challenges of recovery.
The project is being produced by Mr. Robot (2020) producers Esmail Corp, Killer Films (Past Lives), and Anthology Studios, with distribution rights currently on the market at the American Film Market. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling U.S. distribution, while international sales are managed by The Veterans. The film will feature both English and Korean dialogue, with scenes shot in both the U.S. and Korea, and is expected to begin filming in early 2025.
