How to Train Your Dragon’s live-action remake is expected to rake in over $70 million on its opening weekend. The original film follows young Viking named Hiccup who refuses to kill dragons and instead forms a bond with one of the most feared dragons of all, a Night Fury. The film, which received much love, currently sits at an astonishing 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is this love for the original that likely makes projections for this remake so high.

The film’s projections will likely put it in front of the competing Disney live-action remake, Lilo and Stitch, for that weekend. Live-action remakes often receive mixed feedback among critics, with some feeling that the remake must be warranted and not just a rehashing of the same story. Only time will tell if How to Train Your Dragon’s remake will meet expectations, but the projections are promising for DreamWorks.

The How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, and its theater release date was June 13th. You can find the trailer for the film below.
