How to Train Your Dragon did well in its previews. The film earned an impressive $11.1 million dollars. That’s $8.6 million earned on Thursday and $2.5 million in early access screenings from Wednesday.

The film, which currently has a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, is receiving overall positive feedback, yet is nowhere near the original’s 99% score.

An official description of the film reads as follows:

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

Hopes are that the film continues with the positive trend of both ratings and earnings in the following weeks. Only time will tell if this happens.
