‘How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies’ for the Oscars’ Best International Film

The National Federation of Thai Film Associations (MPC) has selected How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies as Thailand’s entry for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category. Directed by Pat Boonnitipat, the film was released on September 13. It has already achieved an impressive box office gross of $50 million, distributed by GDH 559.

Produced by Jira Maligool and Vanridee Pongsittisak, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies has also broken records outside of Thailand, particularly in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Netflix has acquired the streaming rights for Southeast Asia. It currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie follows a young man named M, played by singer-actor Putthipong Assaratanakul (known as Billkin), who leaves his job to care for his terminally ill grandmother. Usa Semkhum plays the witty and gentle grandmother. M is motivated by her fortune and plots to gain her favor before she passes away. As time progresses, it appears that the young man and the older woman have a very heartfelt connection.

This film brings together people in their 20s and 50s, fostering community and love. The music composed by Jaithep Raroengjai, helps bring this emotion alive. A lot of the moving script was brought to life by co-writer  Thodsapon ‘Ped’ Thiptinnakorn. We await to see what other records this film may break.
