Author of Sci-Fi Horror comic series The Woods, James Tynion IV is working with his creative production company, Tiny Onion alongside indie film production company, Lyrical Media (known for films like How to Blow Up Pipeline with Lukas Gage & Elevation with Anthony Mackie) to bring not one but two of his comic books to life on the big screen.

One project in the pipeline is Exquisite Corpses, a comic horror series about a futuristic dystopian world where killers (specifically 12) compete for a chance to ultimately run the nation with their family under the ruse of a traditional democratic system that was orchestrated by wealthy families that had already been secretly controlling the nation – here’s a link to Tyrion’s SubStack for Tiny Onion from February 2025 where he hinted at bigger projects to come, along with in-depth details about the series while citing his inspiration from legendary Horror comic writer, Robert Kirkman.

Another film adaptation in the works is his short film collaborative project that he released in 2024 by the name of Room Service about a faux hotel room that houses both staff and “guests” with ill intentions, where voluntary participants and desired murder scenarios are prepared for the requesting client. The experience of viewing the animated works morph into a version akin to our reality can be a bit jolting, but the artistry behind the visual comic book influence in the frames veers into mastery making it even more impressive considering the creator trio collab all wore different hats for this project (as hyped in this Gizmodo post).

Though an impressive sliver of his repertoire, the content definitely comes with a trigger warning regarding disturbing violence that is briefly detailed in an informative (but not spoiling) manner by an independent horror publication with their post on Certified Forgotten, plus a link if feeling curious enough to view the short film.

The collaborators have expressed their mutual enthusiasm about working together, Alexander Black was quoted saying the following in an article published by Deadline:

James’s comics have captivated audiences worldwide, redefining what modern horror can be. With Tiny Onion, he’s building on that success by creating stories designed to expand across film and television while tapping into his devoted audience. At Lyrical, we’re committed to empowering visionary creators to take bold swings, and these two films embody the kind of creator-driven storytelling that can grow into the next great horror brand. We’re proud to continue our partnership with James and to support the evolution of Tiny Onion—big things are ahead.

Tynion shared a similar sentiment in the quote below:

When I first started Tiny Onion, the most important thing to me was finding likeminded partners to build incredible worlds with,” said Tynion. “Lyrical has been there every step of the way, and I could not be more thrilled to embark on the next leg of our journey together. These projects were built with love and care with my incredible co-creators, and I’m thrilled to bring that same creative energy to the big screen.

The expansion with these two upcoming feature films will likely bring even more abundant success to Tynion and his growing empire. In addition to what’s to come, Tynion’s past creations have won 5 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards for: Best Writer in 2023; Best Continuing Series, Best New Series & Best Writer in 2022; Best Writer in 2021 – these achievements are for various works ranging from the Vol. 2 Batman series for DC Comics to Something Is Killing The Children for Boom! Studios.
